Pan Gyul is the story of Roshan Stapleton, a Trinidadian steel pan player who was born during a time when females were not allowed to play the steel pan drum. So as a young girl, she had to sneak around to get lessons. Her natural talent improved so much that she was asked to participate in Trinidad’s Carnival as a teenager. Once word got out that she was playing, she lost friends and was presented with the ultimatum of being expelled from school if she didn’t quit playing the steel pan.
